    The Good

Gillig is one of my favourite authors of all time and this book is no different, a fantastic fantasy story that maintain their high standard of writing.

One of my favourite reads of all time and I can’t wait to read the Knave and the Moon when it comes out in paperback.

    The Not So Good

I had an issue with the silver text on the cover fading away, I don’ think it was intentional but I kind of like it!

    Quotes

“I confess horses are not the intelligent beasts I imagined them to be. Though I don’t think that merits the abuse they suffer postmortem.”

“I am years beyond my wisdom.”

“like all the other things I’d dared to love. Gone.”

    The Good

An interesting perspetive on a saturated genre.

I am excited to read more books from this author as the is quite old and I think they have lots of potential.

    The Not So Good

Slow to start and in my opinion not entirely worth the wait.

    Quotes

    “Madness. Sister against sister. Disaster.”

    The Good

A thought provoking read into one of my favourite topics, the Book of Coffee made me question my morning, my philosophy, and even my religion.

    The Not So Good

There is no bad, I love this book, it is the peak of my nerdiness.

    Quotes

“You need a little ugliness to expierence beauty, and to appreciate just how beautiful something is.”

    The Good

A fantastic errie tale of life after the nuclear winter.

I felt a personal connection to Artyom’s journey throughout this book.

Spooky, gory, and all things gross where done extremely well.

    The Not So Good

    Nothing, I love this book.

    Quotes

“The number of places in paradise is limited, only in hell is entry open to all.”

    The Good

A fantastic story, beautifully sad, filled to the brim with compelling characters. A novel for those who’ve loved, lost, and kept on going.

This book is not your typical sci-fi, but rather a chilling exploration of the morals of applying new technologies.

A fantastic lesson in the writing that is better left unsaid.

This was my first Ishiguro book, and I will be reading more.

    The Not So Good

This book can be hard to get into but it is more than worth the journey.

    Quotes

“Your life must now run the course that’s been set for it.”

“you’ve been told and not told.”

  • Rating: 2 out of 5.

    The Good

This book has a great opening like 200(?) pages, it has a great set up, adventures, and fun.

    The Not So Good

This book was way too long, I felt like a large chunk of this book could be gone and I wouldn’t miss it.

The book doesn’t know what it wants to be, one minute its an action adventure, the next its nothing but DnD dialogue spam.

When this book is good, it smashes it. When it is bad I wish to smash it.

After a string of books I wish were longer, I have to say, I sadly wish this was shorter.

    Quotes

“Let’s Go. Follow my lead. Don’t lag behind.”

    The Good

This book asks fantastic questions about the morals of keeping animals in capitivity and the weight of risking their lives.

The character development is suprisingly good for such a short read.

The setting is really compelling and I wish there were more books set in this universe.

    The Not So Good

The length of this novella constrained a lot of the story telling, worlding building, and climax. I feel like 50 extra pages in this book would have gone a long way to fleshing out the story.

The ending of this story felt pretty rushed, and again I feel like this could benefit from more pages.

    Quotes

“I wanted to be a monter that kills other monsters.”

“A monster can’t love you back, so there’s none of the guilt of reciprocal relationship.”

    The Good

A fantastic hopepunk fantasy that takes you on a whimsical, if a little gross, adventure.

I look forward to reading more of T. Kingfisher’s work especially nettle and bone.

A must read for fantasy fan looking for a short(ish) book to explore.

    The Not So Good

I wish so so so much that this book was longer, but that is a fake complaint.

    Quotes

“This is because magic is a form of psychosis.”

    The Good

This book is a fantastic sci-fi adventure into a story of planet terraforming, governance, and our interdependent relationship with the environment.

Newitz is a terrific author and I found this book totally gripping throughout.

This book reminded me of Becky Chambers’ writing style a lot.

This is not a perfect read but if you like Chambers and other hopepunk authors this is definetly worth a read.

    The Not So Good

Some of the characters in this book are not as likable as Newitz obviously wishes them to be.

    Quotes

“We do not make sacrafices, but we do make bargains”

“Don’t build a person if you do intend to be their ally.”

  • Rating: 4 out of 5.

    The Good

This book is an amazing glipse into a magical fantasy world that explores new ideas without leaving the meat and potatoes of fantasy behind.

Fantastic lessons in the power of words and being careful what you wish for are explored in the book.

As Novik is one of my favourite authors I really hope to see more of this world in particular in the future.

    The Not So Good

The ending of this book felt a little slap-dash, and I would’ve prefered the text to be longer to expand this.

    Quotes

“I hope no one else is ever stupid enough to love you again”
